Element Erde = Ton - Element earth = clay, Working with earth in class 2b

Mit Erde ist nicht nur unser Planet gemeint. Erde ist auch der Boden unter unseren Füßen.
Erde kann braun sein wie ein Acker, sie kann gelb sein wie der Sand. Sie kann matschig, steinig, hart und weich sein.
Talking about earth as the ground under our feet, we spoke about, how earth can be. 
Earth can be brown like a field, it can be yellow like the sand. Earth can be muddy, stony, hard or soft.
Erde kann aber auch feucht und fest sein und man kann damit töpfern. Und dann nennt man Erde "Ton".
Heute haben wir uns "Ton" genauer angeschaut.

A special kind of earth is "clay". Clay smells  a bit like wet sand, it is fresh and wet. You can work with it and clay is heavy. In our region you can find white and red clay. Clay accumulates water and it is hard for water to get through the clay.

Wir Töpfern!

Das Arbeiten mit Ton nennt man "Töpfern" und genau das haben wir gemacht.

Als erstes haben wir uns eine Vorlage gezeichnet, dann sind wir in den Werkraum gegangen und mussten erst einmal den Ton gut kneten, bis er weich genug war.

Mit einer Kuchenrolle haben wir den Ton ausgerollt, dann mit einem Messer unsere Form, einen Fisch, ausgeschnitten und Verzierungen in den Ton geritzt. Das war gar nicht so einfach!

Working with clay!

After smelling, touching and describing the clay, we started to make pottery.

Before we could start working with the clay, it was necessary to dispersing the clay until it was soft enough.

Using a rolling pin, we needed to roll the clay before we could cut with a knife the form, a fish.

Nach einer Woche, der Ton musste nämlich erst etwas trocknen, haben wir dann unseren Tonfisch angemalt. Nun muss er nur noch im Ofen gebrannt werden.

After one week, the clay needs to dry, we started to colour our model with special colour.

Now we only have to wait until it can be burned in a special oven.
